Q: Bipolar Test?
Does having THC in your system affect the results of the test to determine if you are Bipolar?

Do you have to be on Lithium first to see if you are bipolar, or do you take the test first without being on Lithium?

Any other helpful details would be appreciated.
I mean the test where they take your blood to determine your lithium levels.
Im not smoking weed right now, haven’t in years. I just want to know if it will affect the results of the blood test…yes or no. And also wanted to know if you needed to be on lithium before they take the blood or not.

A: I read some of these answers. Don’t listen to them. Bi- polar can only be diagnosed by a blood test, which is called a genes test, because bi-polar is genetic. Bi-polar is mood swings to extreme high and extreme low. But life can make you have the same symptoms. No, man, Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief, can tell you weather you have the genes for bi-polar. Of course they diagnose everybody that comes in a mental health unit with Bi-Polar. If your crying because you stomped your toe,you have bi-polar. If your mad cause someone kicked your dog,you have bi-polar. Bull shit. I was misdiagnosed 13 years ago with it. Because I had went thru something in life that had me extremely aggravated. After being on Lithium and about 4 other drugs, then I became crazy, And I really thought something was wrong. I stopped the meds, I am normal again. Plus they label you crazy, and will not listen to nothing you say. If you say the Meds made you puke, they say no they didn’t. How in the hell would they know . Were they in your bathroom last night. The more meds they hand out the more money they make. At the expense of your sanity. I don’t even have the gene for bi-polar. These meds mess up your mind. And you can smoke all the dope you want, it don’t effect shit!
Be Careful. These drugs are DANGEREOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q: Bipolar test?
how do they test to see if your bipolar?

A: the doctor asks you a serious of questions pertaining to your behaviour of a period of time. they also may speak to your parents or spouse

Q: What if you took a bipolar test on the internet and it says that you need to see a doctor, should you or not?
Do you trust those test or would you just blow them off, sometimes I tell myself am I depressed or am I just putting that inside my head. Is being bipolar a disease of the mind or is it an illness? Having 3 boys doesn’t help the matter none, no I love my boys, they are my world. They are not the reason that the test said I was bipolar.

A: yes, you should go to a doctor

Q: Can anyone give me a good online bipolar test?
I think I have bipolar disorder, but I’m not sure. I’m looking for an online test that will ask for my past, appetite, sleep patterns etc.
I know I need professional advice, so I’m booked in for next monday, but until then I just want to check.

A: It is so good that you are going to see a psychiatrist for help. My own psychiatrist told me that you can never trust online physical or mental tests. But there is a source that can give you the right information about Bi-Polar, anything that you want to know. Go to nami.org which is the site for the National Alliance for the Mentally ILL. Also on their site you can find your local chapter and their phone number. They are always there for support and the best referrals for help in your area>

Q: Can i just ask him for a Bipolar test?
Hi. I am 21 and live in Glasgow. My GP treats me for depression with Citalopram. But i have been experincing what i believe to be manic symptoms and my Mum wants me to get tested for Manic Depression. I have an appointment Friday morning. Can i just ask him for a Bipolar test?

A: There is no ‘test’ for Bipolar. Through extensive interviewing the GP may refer you to Mental health services who again will interview you further. based on these interviews an initial diagnosis may be made.

Q: How do doctors test bipolar disorder?
Hello my name is Jessie. And i think i have bipolar disorder. My friends & colleagues have told me they think it is a possibility. I often change my mood quickly & the other symptoms I looked up are similar to me. I tried talking to my mother this morning about it & i was wondering. How do the doctors test you to see if you are bipolar? Please help me. I could seriously be mentally ill.

A: often times they will ask a series on questions concerning how long your mood swings last and other things of that nature and try you on medications.

their is no blood test or anything like that to know for sure, and honestly, you may have something like AD HD. you may have something that is treated the same as bipolar because of the same symptoms.

don’t be afraid to see a psychologist about this because these conditions can get more serious if you don’t get some coping mecs or something to help you deal with this condition.

Q: Does anyone know anything about the bipolar blood test?
I think I’ve heard of a blood test to determine if you have bipolar disorder. From what kind of doctor does one get this test (if it exists). What are they really looking for? Can they tell if my children have it even if they have not developed symptoms yet?

A: No such test exists. They can test your blood and with standard equipment look at your brain with a CT scan or a MRI and it will reveal nothing in the way of helpful information. There are a couple places using advanced imagining techniques with an MRI to diagnose bipolar, but that is a long way from going to your family doctor and having him order a test like that. As of today this disorder is diagnosed based strictly on interpreting your behavior to see if it can be construed as the symptoms that the American Psychiatrists’ Association’s book–or whatever medical book is used in your country–has decided on as diagnostic criteria.

Q: What is the best free, online, un-subscribable and quick bipolar disorder test?
I have my days, which im sure everyone does but lately i get really happy and then really depressed and i don’t know why im only 13 and i have been finding what this could possibly be and i think it could be bipolar disorder, im proberly wrong but i just want to find the best online test.

A: There are none. Online tests for Bipolar are crap. Being up and down is perfectly normal for someone your age… it is most likely just hormones and just being 13. Bipolar is much more serious than just being up and down…..

Everyone has moods like those of Bipolar Disorder……. because everyone has mood swings, momentary loss of judgment, likes to go shopping, likes sex, feels down sometimes, gets angry now and then and is hyper on occasion. The difference is that all of these symptoms in Bipolar are so intense that they interfere with your ability to function. Think of a pole (biPOLEr) with 0 at the center (0 being normal) and 10 at one end (manic) and -10 at the other (deep depression). Most people have swings but stay within 3 to -3. I have fairly severe Bipolar 1 but since my psychosis is mild I go from -9 to 9…. Also depression that comes and goes is not bipolar but just recurring depression, you have to have mania for it to be Bipolar….. you have to go to both ends of the pole.

Rapidly changing emotions or becoming angry or sad easily is not all there is to Bipolar. That is just having emotions. People with Bipolar Disorder do not just change emotions quickly, they go through periods of depression followed by periods of mania or elevated mood. Mood affects everything about you…. your energy level, self esteem, sleep patterns, appetite, sexuality, emotional response, judgment, etc….. not just your emotions. And while rapid cycling is possible, it is rare. The average person with Bipolar only cycles two or three times a year. It is considered rapid cycling if they cycle 4 or more times in a year.

While everyone with Bipolar has a different set of symptoms and a different severity of symptoms, this is what Bipolar is like for me:

Depression – too tired to get out of bed, shower, even to brush my teeth. Cry all the time, sleep 16 hours a day. Feelings of self loathing and guilt that drive me to think of suicide but I’m to tired to even think about how to go about killing myself. It makes you feel small and worthless and completely insignificant. It makes you think about how big the world is and how meaningless you are in it….. and it refuses to let you have any good thoughts or see any good things…. when you look in the mirror all you see is pain, you don’t even see yourself, you don’t taste your favorite foods anymore, see that flowers are blooming, whether or not the sun is out, you become so inward that you hardly even notice your surroundings….. You don’t even feel love for people anymore…. positive thoughts are just not possible…… it is a deep dark hole with no way out and no light for hope…. and most of all it makes you feel sooooo alone. And even if there were someone who cared about you they would be better off if you killed yourself……. because all you will ever be is a burden……. this can last from a couple of weeks to a couple of years.

Mania – Way too happy! PARTY GIRL! love drink and drugs. Talk really fast and pressured because my thoughts are going faster than my mouth can keep up with. Hypersexual – like I sleep with strangers and guys I just met on the internet or I masturbate 10 times a day. I once became bisexual because there were twice as many people to sleep with. down load porn and spend tons of money on sex toys. Spending sprees….. I once spent my mortgage money on african violets, yep, $1500 on African violets (then I got depressed and let them all die). Quit my job because I wanted my vacation pay for lottery tickets and I was so convinced I would win that I started shopping and writing bad checks because I’d be rich as soon as the numbers were drawn. Decided that I could replace the furnace in my home by myself… I mean how hard can it be….. Only sleep 2 or maybe 3 hours a night for months on end and never feel tired. In the end I was unemployed, $30,000 in debt, and had almost lost my home, which needed a new furnace because I had removed the old one.. or parts of it anyway. This can last for months.

I also have mixed states when I am depressed and manic at the same time which are truly the worst… By body and mind are depressed but there is this undercurrent of energy running all the time….. I’m highly emotional but the emotions tend to be negative (guilt and anger) I have intrusive thoughts and urges to mutilate myself (like wanting to stick my hands in the garbage disposal or cooking them on the BBQ), and I also have psychotic episodes where I hallucinate. This is when I am most suseptible to suicide because I am depressed, wanting to hurt myself, and I have the mental energy to plan and carry it out.

When I am on meds I am a normal 45 year old single mom of 3 and no one would even guess that I am Bipolar.

Q: i took many online bipolar test and came out postive what should i do?
i am 13 yrs old and i have been having problams i took 6 test and came out postive on all of them. my parents would flip i dont know what to tell them please help!

A: Everyone “passes” those tests. Everyone. You are 13 and most likely just hormonal.

Q: How do they test for Bipolar?
I was told that I’m going to be tested for Bipolar awhile back. Now it’s getting pretty close and I’m starting to wonder what they do. I’m going on the 18th (to a neurologist I think is what it’s called) and they said it will take around an hour. How do they test for Bipolar?

A: I was tested a few years ago because we have a definite history of it in my family. I don’t think that a neurologist could test for that. When I was tested I went to a psychologist and they asked me several questions that were able to tell them if I was or not. Luckily I wasn’t, I wish you luck. But even if you are there are medications that can definitely help to live a normal life.

Q: Is the Bipolar Test given by doctors confidential to everyone or can parents find out?

A: There is no bipolar test. The diagnosis of bipolar disorder is clinical.

Unless you are over 18, your medical records are technically the property of your parents. In addition, you would require (if you are a minor) parental consent for any form of treatment (or diagnosis) from a mental health professional.

Q: How do doctors test for bipolar disorder?
I am going to a psychiatrist on Friday to get tested for bipolar disorder, and I’m curious about what they are going to do.

A: The psychiatrist has been trained in specific questions to ask by which he will evaluate whether you are bipolar or not.

There are several signs of bipolar disorder which include inability to sleep with a very euphoric mood, sudden drop to depression in which one does not wish to come out of their bedroom, spending in a manner of which can be truly wise to do and possibly paranoid reactions to situations that may occur.

The situations above need not definitely diagnose one to be bipolar but are some of the guidelines which are used to actually state if one is bipolar or not.

Do not hesitate when stating the symptoms you are currently experiencing at the present time as your doctor would definitely be the one with whom you have trust in and thus help you to control it with further treatment.

Don’t be afraid. It is going to take more strength to actually state just what is happening right now. Do think of your psychiatrist as a friend who is looking out for your well being and not going to hurt you in any way.

I do understand just what you are going through right now as I am bipolar and was very reluctant to trust the first psychiatrist I had (I was living in a different state) but now I have full confidence in that my psychiatrist is looking out for my well being and have therefore trusted him completely.

I wish the best for you.

Q: Can anyone suggest a cheap doctor who can test for Bipolar and Fibromyalgia. In Fayetteville Arkansas?
I am trying to find a CHEAP DOCTOR who don’t charge a fortune. We have just found out 3 of my sisters and one brother all have Fibromyalgia and 8 of 15 nieces and nephews and 2 aunt have been tested and are all being treated for Heredtary Bipolar. I live about 15 miles from Fayetteville Arkansas.

A: Fibromyalgia and bipolar are often symptoms of Lyme disease. That is good news, because if they are from Lyme, the symptoms go away with proper Lyme disease treatment.

Symptoms do not go away with fibromyalgia or bipolar treatment–they are simply “managed” for a lifetime.

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php (very helpful in finding a doctor)

A large percentage of people with Lyme disease never noticed a tick bite or rash. Ticks are extremely small. Ticks carrying Lyme disease have been found in every state of the United States, and in many other parts of the world. Lyme disease is also passed from mother to child in the womb.

It sounds like those in your family may be genetically more susceptible to the Lyme bacteria, if that is, in fact the underlying problem. I’m not saying it definitely is, but you need to see an ILADS Lyme doctor to find out for sure.

Q: is there any way to test for bipolar and schizophrenia?
is there any medical way to test for bipolar and skitsofrania?

A: Yes………..it is a psychological evaluation. This must be done by psychiatristpsychologists. There are common traits medical doctors can detect, but trained professionals in the field give the final prognosis.

Q: if you are high during a bipolar test, does being high mess up the results turning it into a false positive?
somebody i know just took a bipolar test it came back positive, but they were high when they took it, does mess up the test results?
or does it more or less prove that they do have it

A: There is no diagnostic test for bipolar disease.
