Q: I’m 13 and I think I have clinical depression. How can I tell i took a test and it said i more than likely
did. i think about suicide alot and am down almost all the time the only time im happy is w/ my internet bf and im an anorexic who cuts herself. my dad doesnt want me on drugs. and he knows im depressed any ideas?
A: If you’re seriously considering suicide and inflicting pain upon yourself then it sounds like you could use some help. I was diagnosed depressed as an adult, and I didn’t think I was at all! Also didn’t believe in taking drugs for it, and was very skeptical about it being a real disease at all. Boy was I wrong. There are some great medications out there if you need them, but you should start with a very effective non-drug therapy called cognitive therapy. Go get the book called “Feeling Good” by David Burns. It will help you self-diagnose effectively, help you feel like you’re not crazy, educate you about depression, and give you some coping mecanisms quickly. If that’s still a struggle, a combination of medication and cognitive therapy may be what you need. Start with the book though. Dad can’t compain about that!
Also – remeber that you’re 13 and being a teenager is tough. It was for everyone who went through it. Don’t be too hard on yourself, and don’t lose sight of the fact that you will grow, learn, adapt, and get better! Whatever your problem is today, it will be gone or will at least be much smaller very soon. That’s a fact!
Oh… and you need to eat. Nobody’s brain functions properly without proper nutrition. No depression drugs will help if you’re starving. Any doctor will tell you that. Maybe you should treat youself to a banana split. That will fill you up and make you happy!
Q: How do I get a blood test to see if I have a chemical imbalance for depression/anxiety,etc?
Can I go to my doctor and ask,or is it a specific specialist?
Is it an expensive procedure?
That’s not what I asked,read it again.
I asked How do I get a blood test to see if I have a chemical imbalance, i.e,lack of important nutrients, vitamins, chemicals, hormones.whether its for depression, anxiety or just for hell of it,doesnt matter.Just asking How.
A: I agree with the 1st answer. No blood test for depression/anxiety. I have anxiety attacks periodically and i was diagnosed with it from the symptoms i was having. Also they gave me a questionnaire to determine if i was depressed as well. Don’t be depressed though! ; )
Addendum: Things to do to lessen depression/anxiety is to take vitamin b-complex and minerals which will help the nervous system and exercise on a daily basis.
Q: Serious question about ST Depression seen from doing a stress test, can this be caused by heavy caffeine use?
What effect woulf heavy caffeine use have on a heart. I am talking about 10-12 cups of coffee per day plus a couple glasses of cola which also has caffeine.
A: stress is used to screen for coronary artery disease (CAD). Coronary artery disease causes blockage of the vessels supplying the heart. CAD may cause heart attacks which is why it is important to screen for it. During the stress test more blood supply (carrying oxygen) to the heart is required. If the vessels have some sort of blockage then they will be even more starved for blood (containing oxygen) than normal.
On an EKG, this starvation will be manifest as an ST-segment depression.
Risk factors for CAD are
-DM (considered an equivalent of CAD)
-obesity
-genetics (i.e. first degree relatives had MI at “young” age)
-smoking
-high cholesterol
-high blood pressure
-age
-gender (men)
-certain races – more likely to have CAD
Other factors to consider, but not listed “formally” as risk factors for CAD are: stress, and chronic inflammatory disorders i.e. people with RA.
To date, and to the best of my knowledge, caffeine has not been proven to be a risk factor for CAD.
However, as with most lessons in life, moderation is better than excess.
Hope that helps you.
Q: Can the depression or anxiety be detected on a blood test ?
If not, what test should I take ?(exclude psychiatrist or psychoanalyst)
A: No, but it can show if you are deficient in any nutrients
Q: can I have an online depression test?
A: I’m not sure. I’m looking for one too. Not for me. For a friend.
Q: How do I cure from depression?
I had clinical depression. I sat for the Becks Depression test. I got a score of 17th.
A: I also had clinical depression and discovered two things.
First, I got rid of those wants and needs that contributed to my feelings of low self-esteem and inadequacy.
Second, I started an exercise program. Between an increased endorphan level and getting out in the sun, I reduced my depression, so it’s not as deep and doesn’t last as long.
Q: What time frame are depression tests’ “used to” refering to?
I’m killing some time taking like sanity score and other depression tests, but questions like “I no longer enjoy activities I used to” always come up
And wel since grade five, well I cant really say what I used to enjoy? I never had the chance to enjoy anything
the last thing I remember enjoying is barbies, but veryfew people my age still enjoy barbies haha!
But I’ve never been happy.
So what am I supposed to put?
So what am I supposed to say to it?
A: Hi,
The best way to track your depressive moods are to answer the entire series of questions once a week. Usually these tests ask about 10 to 20 questions. But you shouldn’t be applying ’scores’ to them everyday. Don’t think in the past, only present. Your answer may not change. That’s fine. But of course it is an indication of something.
Usually if your ‘down’ mood persists for more than 2 weeks to a month, you should think about what paths you can take to help yourself.
Look up the Mayo Clinic. Check out depression there. Or major depression. It’s the best mental and physical health site around.
I hope this helps. Happy New Year,
peace.
Q: School wants us to take depression screening tests?
I just know that I’ll fail mine, because every other test I’ve taken has said I have severe depression, and I’m a little scared because I’m not sure where these results go. I mean, does the school get them, do my parents get them?
I just want to know if anyone here knows what happens after the results are back.
Virginia. They sent a letter, something about stuff being unrecognized depression, and they want us to take suicide prevention classes too.
A: I’ve never heard of schools taking tests for depression and I’m a mother. Where do you live?
Q: How do they test for bi-polar depression?
A: The brain is a complex organ, so the test is a complex process. Usually it involves a very thorough investigation by a psychiatrist- ideally a mood specialist. Factors to consider by the doctor are your report of symptoms and concerns along with maybe a family member’s report, and also family history. Sometimes a patient may need to be hospitalized and observed, and reactions to certain medications may provide clues as well.
I started exhibting symptoms when I was 12 and wasn’t diagnosed until age 18, but I think the mental health community has come a loooong way since then.
Q: Can a depression be detected by a blood test? I need to help a friend.?
I am asking this question because I have been told so by nurses in a hospital.
In 50 to 60 per cent of cases, an unusual blood test (known as the Dexamethasone Suppression test) can measure the presence and severity of depressive illness.
A: Depression is diagnosed by self-report….
In other words, the doctor asks questions that the patient answers….
There are blood tests that can test for phospholipids – they are used only in experimental settings…for a real simple reason, they average a few grand and dont generalize to a persons subjective experience….asking a half dozen questions tends to be more accurate, easier, and lets treatment begin much faster.
Q: depression/anxiety test online…?
does anyone know of any websites where i can take a test for depression or anxiety?
that don’t ask for a credit card number…
eventually i will ask a doctor but just feel like checking it out first…
A: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/depression/MH00103_D
Very helpful, gives you your diagnosis, and treatment options.
Q: I am looking for the answer key to the BDI depression test .?
A: The Beck Depression Inventory doesn’t have an “answer key” per se – there are no right or wrong answers; a person’s responses on it indicate his or her degree of (or lack of) depression. The BDI should only be administered by qualified professionals. Also, remember, it is only a screening instrument.
Q: What are some actual depression tests used in psychology?
I’m writing a paper for my psychology methods class. I’m in the final draft and I needed to include the specific name of the depression survey I would give my participants. Does anyone know of one? I used the Goldberg depression scale but I’m not sure how reliable this actually is. Are there any better ones? Thanks.
A: Connie is correct. The Beck Depression Inventory is the granddaddy of depression tests. You can look at the PAR site (www.parinc.com) and Psychology Corporation site (now operated by Pearson assessments for other assessments. You can’t buy any, because all tests require proof of profession and students need professor’s approval, but you can look.

A: The first you Report , the second you write a test for thats been designed by soemone like your GDEs

i bottle alot of things up inside of me holding things back nobody knows well nobody in my family knows im sad and want to die.
what should i do? why won’t god take me away with him.
A: Does the test you took specifically cater to young teens? If not, it could be very very wrong.
You are at a time in your life right now that you feel you are alone. No matter what. Family doesn’t understand, and you don’t have many friends. No matter what you are and what you have, I predict you will be unhappy for awhile.
You believe in God, I see. That will keep you from suicide, since if you take your own life, you won’t be seeing him.
Life sucks at 13. I’m willing to bet that your *perfect* sister felt the same way when she was there, and just may not be willing to admit it. I’m also willing to bet that your brother is NOT fine now, he just doesn’t want to deal with the consequences of telling someone he is unhappy. Who wants to be shipped away?
Your parents should take a more hands-on approach. Sending off your kids to get therapy is nowhere near as helpful as letting them know that you sympathize, and know how they feel.
Just to give you an idea of how people perceive things differently, I envy you. I wish I was skinny. And I’m not even overweight.
