Q: Any one out there taking Bupropion for anti depression?
I was amazed at how fast you lose weight on it. Good stuff Maynard!
A: No.
I steer clear of any and all “antidepressants.” Paying money to big Pharma for drugs that will probably inflict untold damage down the road is not my bag when I can cure my depression through diet, exercise and supplements.
Q: I have dystimia (cronic depression) and anxiety. I am taking bupropion SR. Is it good? What other things can I
I have dystimia (cronic depression) and anxiety. I am taking bupropion SR. Is it good? What other things can I do to get better? Please tell me things that I can do in my home. Thank you for your help.
A: I know some people feel better on Buproprion (Wellbutrin), but I also know very many who don’t get better. I, for myself, did not get better on it, and I gave it enough time, and I hated how jittery it made me feel. My depression needs help with Serotonin, and to a lesser extent Neuropineprine. That is why an SSRI or an SSNRI help me far better than Wellbutrin. If you’ve been on Wellbutrin for abot six weeks, and noticed no improvement, talk to your doctor about other options. SSRIs include prozac, zoloft, paxil, celexa, and (my favorite with least side effects) lexapro. SSNRIs include effexor and cymbalta.
Otherwise, exercise, eat healthy, avoid by all means toxic relationships and hang out with people who make you feel good, try and be grateful when you have a good thing going, do not get angry with yourself if you fall behind, re-connect or nurture your faith, do not drink alcohol, use illegal drugs, or even sleeping pills (those last three undermine anti-depressants).
Things do get better, don’t give up hope.
Q: does the depression medicine BUPROPION cause birth defects?
i was prescribed this medication for my depression and i am pregnant and i was wondering if it causes birth defects?
A: This is always a tricky issue. What you will always hear is that the decision needs to be made by deciding if the risks of taking it during pregnancy are outweighed by the benefits of doing so.
Essentially, if you can get by without the med, then you should do so. If you think you really cannot make it through the pregnancy without the med then it should be considered.
There are always some risks when taking such meds during pregnancy. Wellbutrin seems to have fewer risks than most of the others, but we don’t have conclusive data on this. I have known women whose OB/GYNs told them taking prozac etc. was no problem only to have studies released months later showing some meaningful risk with them.
Like caffeine, alcohol, and cigarettes, less is more with psych meds (when possible and reasonable).
Q: What other things is wellbutrin (bupropion) used for besides depression?
A: I took it, and I lost 15 pounds which made me a good weight. It suppresses urges and addictions, like alcohol, smoking and eating. It is prescribed by doctors to help get past the cravings. An added delight was, that I could talk well! I have word-finding problems, and it helped me so much, to sort out stuff- in my head?- and I could plan out my day better, too. Fine to try. I actually cannot utter the right word, sometimes not even after multiple trys- I would say a thing like “shut the cat” over and over, and I wanted to say “shut the window”! this made me a recluse, who didn’t want to even get a job where I had to explain or speak to several people or to a boss, oh my God! either- and this cured that!
Q: anyone with personal experience with bupropion for depression?
A: This is the generic form of Wellbutrin…I’ve been on it for several years and feel that it works very well. I was not prescribed it for depression, but for weight loss because it is also used to curb cravings…such as nicotine and food.
Q: consumption of alcohol while taking bupropion (depression medicine)?
i read somewhere that consuming alcohol while taking bupropion can be bad…. can anyone please explain what happens when you do this? and how dangerous it is? thanks…
A: According to the link below, alcohol may increase your risk of a seizure while you are taking bupropion. Read more….
Q: About – Bupropion SR for major depression.?
Does Bupropion SR really help in depression and ADHD?
A: no. its out there because it doesnt help.
thats why doctors prescribe it. because it doesnt help.
Q: The doctor has given me prescription for BUPROPION to treat my depression, has anyone ever taken this b4 ,how?
many MGs did you start with and how much are you taking now, also does it do the trick? Thanks//
A: Generally you start by taking 150 mgs for the first 3 days. Then it is increased to 300mgs (one pill in morning and one in the evening). It does work, but you need to be patient, it doesn’t work over night.
Q: What is the difference between major depression w/ melancholia and severe major depression?
Major depression w/ melancholia is usually treated with a SSRI or bupropion SR and severe major depression needs a tricyclic antidepressant.
A: ???? Those are two labels that describes two different things. Major Depression w/Melancholia describes Major depression that’s characterized by extreme sadness and melancholia. Severe Depression means a depression that has all or almost all the symptoms listed in the DSM and as the name implies is very impairing and distressing. So, one label describes type of symptoms and the other severity of symptoms. So those types of depression aren’t mutually exclusive.
Also, treatment recommendations really depends. SSRIs are usually the first choice antidepressant followed by Bupropion, followed by tricyclics or augmentation with psychostimulants, Buspar, or atypicals, etc. Unfortunately we don’t have a good way of determining which treatment works best so it’s usually a guessing game at first.
Q: what to do about drinking on bupropion?
so they say you shouldnt all of a sudden quuit drinking after drinking alot while taking i tbut they also say you shouldnt drink on the medicine so what do you do to avoid the seizures? wellbutrins generic brand depression pills bupropion.
A: Look, this is an inappropriate question for this site. “If,” you are serious then you need to talk with your physician and no one else about this issue.
Q: Has anyone had success with combing Prozac with Wellbutrin for treatment of depression?
I’m wondering if combining the two would help with the fatique and lethargy that accompanies major depression. The Prozac (fluoxetine) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), while Wellbutrin (bupropion) acts on dopamine and norepinephrine. I was hoping for some feedback from anyone who has taken this combination, as I intend to discuss this option wit my MD. What do you all think? Any comments, experiences, and opinions would be very much appreciated.
A: They are not meant to be combined. And all anti-depressants are unhealthy.
Q: Does Amitriptyline have anti-anxiety effect other than anti depression effect?
i can’t take banzodiazpine for some reason, and i’m under treatment for depression (by Bupropion), and since two days ago i got this extreme anxiety attacks. my heart rate was 140 once. wanna know if Amitriptyline has anti anxiety like Nortriptyline does (aside from the anti depression effect that is their actual job)
A: It can do, it all depends what dosage.
You need to go back and talk to your Doctor ASAP.
It could be a side effect of your medication, it’s possible it doesn’t suit you.
Q: My doc put me on Bupropion SR 5 days ago. To quit smoking and for depression.?
He started me for 3 days taking one pill. I had the same symtoms as below. He now has me taking two 150 mil pills daily. I am having severe anxiety, crying for no reason, headaches, loss of wanting to eat. Severe mood swings. Since taking the higher dose I feel like I am going crazy!!!! Will this get better with time. I have only been on it five days and I feel so weird like this is the drug from HELL! Please comment! Thanks in Advance!
A: Bupropion SR is a generic drug for the popular antidepressant Wellbutrin. Well, first I do not know what you mean when you say you are going crazy. Bupropion is also used to help people stop smoking, and goes by the name Zyban. If you are trying to stop smoking, the symptoms may be that of nicotine withdrawal, along with the other symptoms you are displaying. In any case, you should notify your physician immediately. I have taken Bupropion before, and it initially made me feel sort of strange, but not for long, and not to the degree you seem to be displaying symptoms. Remember that all drugs affect people differently. It would be wise to contact your Doc right away. Also make sure you let him//her know of any other meds you are taking, whether they are prescription or over the counter. You should not have to feel this way, and I am sure your physician would want to know this information ASAP. Good luck, and you will feel better when a drug is found that complements your body.
Q: Are my feelings true on bupropion?
I started taking bupropion sr in late october of 2008 for anxiety and depression, and i feel 100% better and am supposed to get off of them in mid july of this summer. But is bupropion altering who I am as a person, as in my personality and my emotions? Am i truley who i really am on this medicine?
A: Would you like to think that depression and anxiety is who you are? The depression and anxiety was what was altering who you are as a person.
Q: does Amitriptyline have anti-anxiety other than anti depression effect?
i can’t take banzodiazpine for some reason, and i’m under treatment for depression (by Bupropion), and since two days ago i got this extreme anxiety attacks. my heart rate was 140 once. wanna know if Amitriptyline has anti anxiety like Nortriptyline does (aside from the anti depression effect that is their actual job)
A: Hey,
I have my drug guide from when I was in nursing school last year, and under the unlabeled uses for amitriptyline, it says it is used to treat anxiety. The other unlabeled uses are insomnia, chronic pain, headaches, and low-back pain. Even though this drug is sometimes used for anxiety, one of the side effects is cardiac arrhythmias. Certain cardiac arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation could cause your heart rate to increase, so you could be experiencing a side effect of the medication.
Take care,
JC
