Q: Why do people with bipolar disorder or other types of mental illness tend to be more sexually active?
They just classified me as bipolar I think I just lost my mind but yes I do feel the need to have sex a lot is it just my hormones maybe lol or what? Why is this or is it just me?
A: Hypersexuality is VERY common in Bipolar disorder, not everyone has that symptom but most of us do. I used to want sex 10 times a day when I was manic. Enjoy it if you can because most meds will kill your libedo……
Q: What distinguishes schizophrenia from other types of mental illness?
A: Schizophrenia like Bi-Polar or Uni-Polar are diseases just like diabetes or heart disease. They are caused by disruptions of the brain chemicals and the neurotransmitters. Schizophrenia is different because it causes one to have hallucinations, hear voices in their heads and sometimes paranoia that has to be treated.
Q: Types of Mental Illness’s you can get in a mental hospital for.?
Writing a story, and I’m curious, what type of mental illlness’s can get you in a mental hospital?
Thanks
A: schizophrenia
Q: when someone has an hormonal imbalance what types of mental illness can that cause?
A: the first thing they do when someone is admitted in a mental hospital is to test the thyroid hormone level, an imbalance can cause all sorts of problems such as irritability and mood swings and probably worse.
Q: I want to research on different types of mental retardation/illness?
I need to research for a particular kind of mental problem. Actually I have a character in my story who have some mental problem. I read all those common mental problems but non of them matches my character’s mental problem. I need to research on different types of mental problems which are caused by head injuries. But I don’t know from where I should start. Do u know any kind of source from where I can get this. thanku
A: I think that you can develop psychosis (out of touch with reality) from a head trauma. Check that out. Then your task will be to try to portray that in writing. Good luck!
Q: What’s a good website to go to for information about different kinds of mental illness?
What is a good website to go to for information about different types of mental illness and their symptoms?

Q: Attributing human mental illness characteristics to dogs?
While googling Chihuahua rescue groups to answer a YA question, I came across a website listing a “special needs” dog. They described the dog as being “Autistic”, and having “Post Traumatic Stress Disorder”.
Do you think it is possible for dogs to have these types of mental illnesses? Or do you think it’s another example of “humanizing” dogs?
How do you feel about rescue groups/shelters making these diagnoses? Is it helpful? Dangerous? Insane?
How do you think they come to these diagnoses?
A: It’s likely used as a way to make people understand the behaviors and sugar coat them, but it perpetuates humanization.
Consider “autistic”….that would indicate to me that this dog has behavioral issues resulting from a lack of training and discipline..but then again, I am a dog savvy person who comprehends canine behaviors. A potential adopter sees “autistic” and it tugs on the heartstrings….poor dog is “special”. If the dog were discribed as improperly trained and socialized and ill-behaved, those potential adopters would pass him by.
It doesn’t help that people think that giving a dog enough love will squash problem behaviors. I think using these human-specific mental illnesses just perpetuates that way of thinking and appeals to those who have that mindset.
Q: How does your religion explain mental illness?
Does it explain why people have mental illness? What mental illness is? The different types of mental illness? How accountable they are in this life and the next?
To give an example, religion used to say people commit suicide because of the the devil and they go to hell for that unforgivable sin. Now some religious people go with science to say it’s from illness like clinical depression, schizophrenia etc. so they’re not fully accountable for the sins. But these modern explanations don’t seem scripturally-based at all.
Insight on what your religion actually teaches about these issues?
A: I’m Jewish. We simply believe that mental illness is – well – a mental illness.
There was a time when those who committed suicide were not buried with Jews who died “normally.” However, that was in years gone by, and that’s no longer true.
By and large, I think that most Jews would say that people with some forms of mental illnesses are not responsible for their actions. Certainly, one of the stereotypes concerning Jews is that there are lots of Jewish psychologists, doctors and psychiatrists; if anybody understands mental illness, I’d say we would. I’ve definitely NEVER heard anything negative spoken about someone who was mentally ill as it relates to Judaism.
Q: What type of MENTAL ILLNESS IS best describes a COP?
Whatever the mental illness is, I think HITLER had it also.
A: This best diagnosis would be a sociopath with a paranoid personality disorder. I am not sure of its validity but in graduate school in psychology i heard that criminals and cops have the same profile on the MMPI. The MMPI is the best, most researched pesonality test which can detect psychological problems and tendencies.

A: lol thats not an illness or a mental problem…. its called jealousey… the fact that she tries to “pretend” to be happy and act as if shes better than everyone else around her… the fact that she smiles when she hears bad news for anyone else around her… she feels better to know that other people are being brought down and she doesnt like the people who are happy and nice… shes nice to people who she knows that is just like her…. shes depressed and not happy with herself… thats why shes basically begging for attention… let her know that shes loved even though she may say things like “ugh what r u talking about? im perfectly fiine!” or “oh stop, i always look good” or anything like that.. but im just saying.. her self esteem is waaayy beloww level….. shes trying to being her ego up so she lets other egos down to make herself feel better because she feels as if nothing else in the world will help or make her happy…. trust me… i know quite a few people who are like that… just study her and youll see her facial expressions and then what she will say in response… lol shes the depressed upset sad one… let her run her course…. lol good luck =]
Q: Is there a free test that can help you figure out if you have bi-polar type 1 or other mental illness?
Is there a test on line that can help you see what type of mental illness you have, that’s free and legit?
A: Try a qualified therapist or psychologist for a more accurate assessment.
Q: What types of mental illnesses are linked to poor hygiene?
What specific mental illnesses attribute to poor hygiene (avoiding showers, neglecting teeth) and poor housekeeping (letting dishes pile up, letting trash stay in the floor for weeks)??
A: i just recently found out that the avoidance of showers for a lot of people is their way to self preserve themselves~ie;; I smell bad enough they won’t bother me~i have a God son that we just recently found out was raped when he was 6 he is 17 now & has kept this all to himself~counselors where he was @ say that is one of the 1st signs of sexual abuse is not showering also staying awake till everyone else is asleep ~ is also a defense mechanism to make sure all predators are out for the night~the teeth go along with the showering~the worse you look & smell the least likely in their eyes they’ll be attacked again~btw he has been diagnosed with ptsd~depression~and bpd♦
Q: Important: Can I become a pilot if my family has a history of mental illness?
Im applying to a university and will major in flight. However, my father has a history of mental problems (depression, delusions, etc.). I have had depression in the past BUT I DONT HAVE any type of mental illness (bipolar, schizophrenia, etc). Will I be able to major in flight and become a pilot if my family has a known history of mental problems? For reference, Im planning on applying to Purdue.
A: Your family’s history of mental illness will not be used against you.
Depression is a mental illness, but if you have not had a disabling episode and do not require prohibited medications, you should have no problem flying.
Look up the medical requirements for a flight physical.
I am sure there are lots of pilots being treated for depression. If the illness and the treatment do not interfere with flying, you should be fine.
Since you do not currently have depression, you will probably be fine.
Remember, if there is a strong family history of mental illness and your own medical history of mental illness, there is a strong likelihood of this recurring. You may be fine now. You may be fine forever, but maybe not. Try to get experience that allows you a career to fall back on if flying becomes impossible.
I have heard that commercial piloting is stressful and you work long and irregular hours. This might trigger symptoms that were previously controlled.
Don’t put down your dream (and family illness does not disqualify you), but make sure you have options if you need them.
Q: What mental illness does Angelina Jolie have?
I kept hearing everything about the type of mental illness she has or used to have. And on that note, what does that disturbed Angelina Jolie-look-a-like Octuplet mom have? Just curious.
A: Angelina Jolie does not have any mental illness or is she disturbed if you dont like her then don’t talk about her because you don’t have any proof she is mental or disturbed

Q: A good site for diagnosing mental illness?
I’m pretty sure I have some form of mental illness does any one know of a site that can diagnose or at least describe types of mental illnesses?
>.> I only go to the doctors when I know what’s wrong with me
A: You need a doctor to diagnose you, or a therapist. People often think they have a serious mental illness, and in fact, they just have a few minor issues that are no way a full blown mental illness. That’s why self-diagnosis just doesn’t work for mental problems – you’re stuck in your own head. If you do have a serious mental illness, then you have the opposite problem – half of that group can’t tell they are sick – they lack “insight” is what it’s called. Or there are the personality disorders, where people do not realize they have serious problems.
The main categories are mood disorders – depression & bipolar, where you are very sad and low in energy etc, and in bipolar, it may alternate with high energy. There is the thought disorders – schizophrenia and schizoaffective, with psychosis, or psychosis plus depression or bipolar. There are anxiety disorders like phobias, or generalized anxiety. Then there are personality disorders, like being overly dependent on others, or a sociopath, or borderlinie personality disorder etc. These are all the main groups. If you are mostly sad, you should look up mood disorders. If anxious, anxiety disorders, etc. Just google the one that applies to you. But take the self-tests with a grain of salt. It’s only a mental illness if it is SERIOUSLY interfering with your daily life.
Mayoclinic and webmd have stuff on mental illnesses in general, as does NIMH.gov (national institute of mental health).
